POD A

Construction
The children have been working together in all areas of the classroom, but with construction projects it is very evident.
Where do they get their ideas?! All sorts of places! Today the initial group drew inspiration from a chapter book we're reading. Each day before we leave, we read a chapter from The Magic Tree House book Perfect Time for Pandas. Lane, Cannon and Maren were the first friends to build in the construction area this morning and Lane suggested they use the book as inspiration:
Lane: We could make a panda center like in the chapter book. We could use leaves... (leaves are a new material in construction)
Maren: and bamboo
Cannon: And panda kindergarten
Maren: Yeah, the panda school that Jack and Annie saw. (characters in the book)

While building Cannon lined up some rocks:
Cannon: These rocks can lead to Panda school too.
Lane: Yeah, so you know where you're going.
Cannon (indicating one part): This is the playground. And the pandas eat lunch at the playground.
Maren: Here's some bamboo they can eat. (she adds bamboo pieces)
Lane (with foam): And here's where the pandas can practice yoga. Oh! Cannon amazed me. You used rocks as a road.

Later, Palmer and Wolf joined and helped work on the Panda Center. Their new additions included a trap (to trap the bad guy - the dinosaur menace), pipes to create a water system and even a swimming pool!
Weaving
All the friends have had a turn making an individual weaving. We introduced small scale weaving this week because the children had expressed an interest in creating a collaborative weaving on the large loom. Pod B is finishing up a large weaving and we plan to make one once the loom is available.

Weaving
The friends finished their large weaving today by adding the lovely painted strips they created yesterday. They had to figure out how to reach the top of the loom - spoiler alert: stand on a stool or chair! The finished product is lovely!
STORE
There have been some great interactions and transactions happening in the store:

Aida:  Now I can come to your store and you can be the cashier.  Hi, I love your store.   I need some new marshmallows because I’m going on a camping trip and I don’t have any marshmallows to cook.

————————————-
Fletcher:  I would like some little marshmallows.
Aida:  One, two, three, four…
Fletcher: Um, that doesn’t look like enough.  I need a whole pack of rainbow marshmallows.   This might take awhile.
Aida: Here you go.
Fletcher:  Um, no, that’s still not enough.
Melanie:  How many do you think you need?
Fletcher:  A hundred.
Aida: That’s too many!
Fletcher:  But I need to do it every single day so I can have s’mores every single night when I camp out okay?  That’s why I need a hundred.
(Aida gets some more)
Fletcher: Okay, I think that’s enough.  Thank you.
Aida:  Here’s some money.  Do you need a key?
Fletcher:  Thank you.
————————————-----
Aida:  Hi, I’m at your store.  I need to buy some - a lot of marshmallows because I’m camping out for ten times.
Olivia:  What did you say again?
Aida: I’m camping out for ten times.
Olivia:  So you need some marshmallows?
Aida: Yeah!
Olivia: How many?
Aida: Ten.
Olivia:  Do you like them on a stick or in a bag?
Aida:  Here you go.  (Gives to Melanie)
Olivia:  And you can have one key.
Aida:  Thank you so much.
Melanie:  Oh that’s for me? So we can go camping?
Aida:  Yeah when the virus passes for real.  It’s cherry.
Backwards Day!
