Welcome back to school everyone! Happy New Year!

Since we're back now after the break, we decided it was time to replace the paint colors for the easel.  At meeting, we asked children how to mix certain colors.  Ellie knew right away that to mix green, you need "blue and yellow"!  Evelyn knew that to make pink, you need "white and red", and she added, "You mix it really really long."  We asked about purple, and Palmer knew you might need blue, but wasn't sure what else.  "Maybe you need black and pink" said Wolf B.
Then, after meeting, we got to work.  Grace was mixing pink, adding small quantities of white and red gradually.  She said, "If you add more red, it makes darker pink."
I asked Olivia what color she was mixing.  She had added lots of red and a small amount of yellow.  As she watched the colors mix she said, "I don't know what it's called.  Ellie, what's this mix called?"
Maren said, "I'm trying to make rainbow."  The end result was dark purple, which she liked.
Fletcher said, "I mixed all the colors of the rainbow and it made green!"
Ideas for The Dollhouse...
(We were gifted a doll house from our friend Brigitte who sometimes substitutes at our school.  It is lovely yet sort of blank - it inspired the teachers to ask the children, what could we make out of this?  We asked children to write or draw their ideas. Many of them wanted to put a family inside the house.

(first one second row) Grace said we should "make our own people."  She drew a family on cardboard.

(top right) Ellie's idea was to give the house itself a persona.  "It has eyes and cheeks" she said.  Then she added a friendly smile, shoes, hands, and even hair.

Emilia used horizontal lines in her drawing to indicate rooms.  She said, "This could be a room, and this could be a room, and this, and this...." Altogether there are 9 rooms in her plan.

Evelyn had an idea to make it a tall tall tower with princesses. (bottom right)
