We had a lovely start to the day with Chapel. Emilia and Palmer were the bell ringers. The chilly temperatures didn't stop us from enjoying some outdoor play. Wolf and Palmer diligently swept out the cobb house. Cannon put the animals in jail and fed them bologna sandwiches. Fletcher used the wheel barrow. Evelyn and Olivia had fun pushing each other on the swing. Grace, Lane, Gigi, Maren, Ellie and Emilia cooked lots of imaginary food together. Upon returning to the classroom we watched the video we are working on for Alexandra and considered what it still needed (some friends weren't in it!) Someone suggested that the video wasn't long enough. But trying to decide what to add was complicated and we'll revisit the topic soon. Some friends helped create Grace's birthday gift today. It turned out great! In the classroom, there was police play, building, message center work, and sewing. It was challenging to snap photos of the happenings while also helping facilitate snack and sewing. However, we did audio record and transcribe some of the police play that Grace, Lane, Maren and Emilia did.
Here is more dialogue from that play sequence: Lane: Ok, K9 unit. Grace: K9 unit. Maren: Grab my truck! Grace: Ok, I’ll go get them (bad guys). Stay safe. Maren: A bad guy’s in the water! Grace: We gotta catch ‘em. No, let’s just ride past him. Maren: No, you have to go in the water! Grace: Oh, here we come water. Maren: Time to go! GO! GO! GO! Grace: To the bus station. Maren: We have to go to the bus station? Ooohhh. Lane: I’m gonna hop onto the bus. Emilia: Good. Well… Lane: Look at the screen. Do you know why? My new phone is not working today so I’m using my old phone. Grace: I gotta ride to Sedgewick St. So that’s not that far. Lane: I was about to take a picture of the burglar and I just took a picture of my K9. Grace: You’re not on the bus ladies. Sit down. Sit down. Now we have to go driving. (Grace drives) I’m drivin’ the K9 down. Lane: Cause I need to open the door. Grace: We gotta walk downstairs cause the burglar. Lane: Open it. Okay? Maren: Now it’s locked. Grace: Let me go get it. Lane: But this is the key to it. Emilia: Hey guys!...I see them, I see them! I see the bad guys. Grace: Okay. Emilia: Look at them and take a picture. Grace: Oh that’s bad. We’d better call a nice good guy to get to the water fast to get us down there and catch the bad guys. Okay? Lane: Police Officer Emilia. Emilia: What? Lane: I’m next door to your house. There’s a bad guy, I trapped him in my door and my puppy is scared. Emilia: Okay. Grace: We’re on the way! K9 unit – don’t worry - we’re on the way! Lane: There’s an owner of a cat who’s stuck in fire. And the owner is hurt. We’d better call the ambulance. Grace: Ok, I’ll go get the fire truck. Lane: And the kitten is hurt. Only the kitten is hurt. Emilia: I’m on it. Grace: We’re on the way. We’re driving. We gotta go fast to the burglar. Now let me get some sketches. Lane: I’ll get (write) notes. And thanks to Cristian for being the Mystery Reader today!
