GALLERY WALK: Collage

Thank you to the moms, dads, and nannies who took a look at our collage work this morning!  We plan to put it out again Monday for those who would still like a chance to see it.

Pod A's Blog is brought to you by MAREN!

Continuing Clay

"Fletcher made a gingerbread house. Oliver made an airplane.  What I would make is a unicorn, rainbow, narwhal car.  All three of them." - Maren

Aida added some details to a vehicle she has now named an "ice cream truck".  She worked with a teacher to hollow out the bottom area so that the thickness of the clay would not cause an explosion in the kiln.  She later created a skateboard and a boat.
Fletcher and Oliver used a wire tool to slice a large block of clay into slabs which they used to build.  As Oliver built his 2 airplanes he commented "It's a girl mission plane.  It has long plane hair.  The boy plane has this (wing) because it has super speed.  The hole right here energies the air, energies it out."  Fletcher added a chimney on top of his sturdy house and commented that "maybe mice" could live there.

Kitchen Conversation

Dakota: First it's Hophop's birthday.  Then it's giraffe's birthday.
Aida: Hop is turning 3.
Dakota: My giraffe is turning 7.
Aida: Wow.
Dakota:  The gummy cupcakes are ready.  Mmmm this cake looks delicious.
Aida: We'll take it out and let it cool off.
Dakota: Yep.
Aida: I'm making noodles.  What are we making Dakota?
Dakota:  Food for Hophop's birthday.
GAMES
Picture
"We were playing with games but I don't really know what it's called.  Basically you have to get these chips, I got three, and she got three, and if you get one more, that's how you win.  You need four to win." - Maren

Letters for "Collage" Sign

"I had to put it really close together.  These were hard - the A and G were hard because there were loose pieces.  I had to put them really close together so they would fit.  This was mine, this was Dakota's."
-Maren

Meeting Conversation:  ☀️☀️☀️☀️ THE SUN
(We noticed how the sun was pouring in through the window, creating rainbows in our new rainbow maker machine)

Melanie: The sun is so far away but still so bright! How far away is the sun?
Fletcher:  100 million feet away.
Aida:  100 million away.
Maren:  Part of the sun is up to space.
Olivia:  I bet it's gonna be longer than the classroom 'cause it's up to space.
Maren:  It's probably bigger than the school.
Melanie:  Could we measure with a measuring tape?
Olivia:  No, it would break!
Fletcher:  Maybe a long rope?
Oliver: Or we could fly a plane.
Dakota:  Or build a tunnel.
Fletcher:  Or we could climb the planets.
Olivia:  Space is WAY up to the sky.  The moons are not like steps.
Dakota:  When you touch (the sun), it's hot.
Aida:  It's made of gas and fire.
Maren:  It'll burn you.
Olivia:  How would we build a real rocket ship?  We're not astronauts.
Oliver:  We need heavy boots, a heavy backpack and gloves.

Pod B's Blog brought to you by CANNON!

"Outside was such a short time.  (I was) playing with Palmer, making a wooden house.  Wood like logs and bark.  (And we were) playing with animals." - Cannon
🌀💠 Wintery Watercolors with Collage 💠🌀

Cannon reflects on his piece: "It's not dry yet.  Medusa is frozen by ice.  She has snake hair.  Maybe she's a monster.  See those lines?  Those are Medusa.  She takes over Christmas."
Picture
Other quotes from the process:
Nora: I made an ice skate.
Palmer:  Look, it's going darker blue to lighter blue.  The silver is sort of melting.
Gigi: (While glueing) It's snowing.  It's actually snowing.  I'm covering the snow lumps (with tissue paper) to make them look like they're actually snow.
Cannon:  (About Medusa) Blue blood is dripping, dripping, dripping everywhere.
Lane:  It's a picture of winter.  It's a blizzard.
Construction
"We builded a huge tower! It might reach up to the ceiling!" - Cannon
