Yesterday, we had the opportunity to meet Ronnie the crane driver!  This morning, we asked the children: How we can thank Ronnie for coming to meet us and tell us about his work? What could we make as a gift for Ronnie?

Wolf:  Pasta!
Brooke:  What will you make it out of?
Wolf: This. (papers in hand)

Palmer:  A bulldozer.
Brooke:  Out of what?
Palmer:  Pesto.

Ada:  Cut paper.
Brooke:  How should we give it to him?
Ada: In something.
Brooke:  I bet Ronnie would like this piece. (picture of truck)
Wolf:  Put it in his crane.

Wolf's strategy while cutting was to cut a piece and then place it in the jar above.

As children learn to cut and continue practicing the skill, they implement different strategies.

Other scissor strategies: Ada uses one hand to stabilize the paper as she cuts with the other.

Palmer's strategy is different: he holds the scissors straight up and down and uses both hands to open and close the scissors.

Ellie focuses closely as she makes short cuts on the edge of this paper.

Oliver's birthday committee created his gift for him today!  We asked Oliver what he would like for his present at meeting.  He answered that he likes the color blue, so his committee (Cannon, Evelyn and Gigi) made sure they added blue collage elements to his piece.  Knowing he likes keys, we found a way to add keys to his piece as well.  We hope you like it, Oliver!!

Gigi kindly brought some rainbow-makers for us to try today.  When we look through the little hole in the center, we see rainbows.  Thanks Gigi and Lindsey!

Some children went to explore the middle room today as part of a small group.  Learning and playing in small groups is a great way for children to know each other and the school more intimately.

Outside, the beautiful weather prompted us to get to work in the sand box.
