Tucker Pod A....
Digital Microscope
We are beginning to explore concepts of plants and growth, and we are beginning to use the microscope to look at natural items closely.

Palmer noticing details on leaf: “It looks like spiderwebs.”

Wolf looked at a variety of objects under the digital microscope. He decided he wanted to draw “the spiky thing.”  (shown top left)
His process was interesting because even though he could see the “spiky thing” up close he thought about how it would exist in nature and chose to represent it that way. So he drew roots, a trunk, put the spiky thing at the top, “because they grow on trees.” And even added some details on the trunk including an area for bees.

After looking at many leaves under the microscope, Palmer did some leaf rubbings. Then he noticed: “They all have lines.” (shown below)

Drawing
Like yesterday, children had the opportunity to continue drawing their ideas about the quotations that hang in our entryway.

Being Outside on this Beautiful Day!
Tucker Pod B...
We told silly jokes at snack, and we couldn't help but burst out laughing!  Oliver volunteered to go first, and he suggested we go in a circle so that everyone would get a turn to tell a joke.  Here's a short sample of the jokes....
Olivia: A beetle ate all the soap!
Fletcher: So funny Olivia!
Grace: My turn... Knock knock, who's there? Broken pencil.  Nevermind - it's pointless!
Fletcher: A plate bonked his head in a tree.  Haha!
Continuing the "Baby Store"
Olivia was the cashier and Fletcher was the customer.  She took the time to show him around the store.  (Dialogue below)

Olivia:  What would you like today?
Oliver: Including what do you want to scan?
Fletcher:  I don’t have anything scanning.
Olivia:  What would you like?  We have some of these pictures…. We have a crib, we have baby pajamas, we have a blanket, we have food and medicine.  What would you like?
(He speaks softly)
Olivia: What? (She leans in to hear - see photo)
Fletcher: I would like a crib.
Olivia:  A crib.  (She gets it from the shelf) So this costs ten dollars.
Fletcher: Okay.

Molly donated the wooden cradle to our baby store!  She was also kind enough to visit our classroom and "buy" some baby supplies.  Oliver and Andy gave her everything she needed (quotes below).

Oliver: And do you need baby milk?  Can you give me the baby to X-ray her?  We X-ray her and give it back to you.

Andy: This is macaroni.

Oliver:  ‘Cause it’s yellow. It’s lemon macaroni and cheese, it’s so healthy.  This is baby milk, and this is snap peas and lettuce.

Andy: Here you go, here’s your stuffy.

Oliver: For your baby.  That’s your stuffy for your baby. (Checks X-ray) ’Beep beep’… Twenty-nine inches baby.
Other notes about our fantastic day...
  • We are almost finished making a gift for Molly's office.  Grace and Oliver helped weave the strips that were selected based on Molly's favorite colors; Oliver said, "I even did it all by myself.  I'm doing it over, under, over, under."
  • Aida wrote "Jupiter, Uranus" on a slip of paper, then attached it to a paper onto which she painted the entire solar system!
  • Andy's bag needed a little TLC, so we added plenty of sparkles while we were at it!
  • Grace helped us write the word "Store" for a panel we are making about all the shopping/selling we have been doing lately.
