Continuing Coins...

Fletcher painted two coins today.  We looked through pictures of coins from Canada and America again.  He decided to make a "brown bear coin".  Then he made a "Fletcher coin", with his own portrait on the front.
Picture
Fletcher looked carefully at the picture of the bear and used basic shapes like ovals, circles, half-circles, and elongated shapes (or "hot dogs" as we sometimes call them) to represent the head, body, and legs.

Finishing up with Paper Sculptures
Andy hadn't gotten a turn to make a larger-scale paper sculpture, so he and Oliver sat down to workshop their 3-D paper folding and glueing projects together.

👻Plans for a Spooky Movie 👻
At snacktime, teachers asked the children if they would be interested in making a "spooky movie" using stop-motion animation.  They were very excited, and came up with lots of spooky ideas right away!

Fletcher: We could make a big monster that goes all the way up to space!
Grace:  Halloween ghosts.  What about a vampire?
Fletcher:  Then the vampire turns into a bat and then a human.
Oliver:  When a vampire flies, it turns into a bat.  When it lands, it turns back into a vampire.

Melanie:  If we had ghosts in the movie, what if they went on an adventure? Where would they go?
Aida:  They would go to Pluto.
Andy:  We'll put a ghost in the movie, then the ghost will turn dead and then into a bat.

Although we didn't have time to start 'shooting' the movie, we made two little ghosts out of yarn and prepared the background/setting (outer space) by finding a planet painting in Aida's portfolio.  We assembled some pretend 'candy' because we had the idea that in our movie, the ghosts might be traveling to Pluto to find the yummiest Halloween candy.

Grace said, "Aida had a great idea.  She said we could tape the leaves onto the sticks [for] the tree trunks."

We recently made some spooky characters out of clay; they are in the kiln, so by tomorrow we'll hopefully have a skeleton, a vampire, a robot, and some other ghoulish actors for the movie.
