At morning meeting, we talked about some X-rays that were sitting on the light table.  What does an X-ray show?  Where are bones in the human body?
Oliver: Only ghosts eat bones.
Alexandra:  Bones in your cheek. The bones are in your body.
Melanie: Why do we need bones?
Grace:  Because, so you can walk and stand up and play.
Melanie:  Maybe we couldn’t stand up without bones.
Grace: You’ll just break down.
Melanie:  What else helps our body stand?
Cannon: Blood.
Palmer: Muscles.
Alexandra:  Did you know that mosquitos can suck your blood?  They suck it up.
Palmer: Only when you have bug spray then the bugs will all fly away.
Melanie:  So when you go to the doctor, do they have a responsibility to check your bones?
Maren:  I’m going to doctor today, ‘cause I have a cough.
Brooke: What do you think the doctor is going to do, to check your cough?
Lane: Flu shot.
Oliver: Check-up.
Maren:  You know, I did a flu shot before, it didn’t hurt!
Brooke: What happens at a check-up?
Oliver: It’s not scared.
Grace:  Maybe you get a shot, or stethoscope or medicine.
Palmer: Listen to your heart.
Oliver: A temperature.
Lane: Ears?
Olivia: And they check your teeth.
Palmer:  And sometimes you have to stick out your tongue when you go to the doctor.
(Many children respond by saying “aaaaah” like they’re opening wide)

Doctor Play today:

Wolf: The doctor’s here now.
Oliver:  Here you go, try this.  If this helps you.  (sling)  You’re not sick anymore.
Fletcher: Let me listen to your heart.  It’s feeling better but… I think you still are not good.
Oliver:  Someone has an emergency.  Ambulance will come.
Cannon: Weeee-oooooo weeee-ooooooo.
Wolf: That’s to help you breathe.

On the first day of school we pressed many leaves.  Today we took them back out, examined them, and used them for messages.  We then filled the contraption with rose petals and other leaves.  Gigi, Palmer, and Maren were very active participants in this process, even when it came to screwing the bolts on/off the press.
