Snack provides an opportunity to get to know one another. The conversation around the snack table this morning provided some insight into how the children are learning about/connecting with one another, as well as their teachers. We were talking about how it is possible to change the lyrics to "Do You Know the Muffin Man," replacing Muffin Man with other people or places. Replacing Muffin Man with Grocery Store was the catalyst for a conversation: Oliver, "I want to go to the grocery store." Melanie, "What do you get at the grocery store?" Grace, "Almonds! And pops. I like caramel!" Addressing Melanie, Ada inquired, "Do you go to the grocery store?" Melanie replied, "Yes. Who else does?" Emilia chimed in, "Me!" Ada added, "I go to the grocery store with my mom." Lane noted, "I go with my mommy to the grocery store when we don't have any more cheese." Ada reflected, "I really like cheese." We asked Palmer if he went to the grocery store. He confirmed that he did. When we asked him what he got there, he replied, "I look at the cars and stuff, like around the corner." We also asked Wolf if he went to the grocery store and what he got there. He shared with us that he buys, "cheese!" (with a big smile on his face) Here are some images that capture relationships forming: through play, shared experiences and conversations.....
