Book Fair preparation: Kite making! The theme of our book fair this year is "Let's Go Fly a Kite". Victor came during morning meeting to show us how to construct the base of a kite with wood and string. We wondered, how are kites normally made? Grace: You put the string on it and you color it in. It flies up in the air. Maren: With the wind. Lane: What if we made a kite with dots on it... rainbow dots. Victor compared the sizes of wood with an existing kite. He said, "You see this one is too long right?" He brought out a new tool: a saw. Palmer: You can saw it! (Palmer then stepped up to hold the wood while Victor sawed through) Victor then began to carefully wrap the strings around and around the wood. We thought about other things we wrap. Oliver: It's like a present. Lane: It's like a bow in your hair. Victor gets out the hot glue gun to seal the string to the surface of the wood. Olivia: We have to glue it right on the middle of here. Palmer: That tool will make the glue. Grace: Be careful Victor. Because the hot glue is hot. Only adults use hot glue. Olivia: Little kids can use it but they can't touch it because it's hot. Oliver: If you touch it Victor, it might be too hot. Doctor Play: How tall are you? Puzzles and construction... Cannon: This is a house for the gorillas.
