It was WONDERFUL to welcome all 15 Rainey Room children today! In addition to having everyone back, we also enjoyed our first Backwards Day. It was a fantastic first day with all the friends!
There were 3 main areas of focus for our work today: individualizing our new cubby bags with fabric paint, working with wire to add creations to the class mobile and touring the school with our new friend Wolf M.
A small group volunteered to show Wolf M around the school. Before embarking, Melanie asked them what they thought Wolf M. should see on the tour.
Lane, "I think we should go to Blake Hall."
Wolf B., "The hallway."
Emilia, "I wanna show him the chapel."
Maren, "Where we get the tools."
On the way they stopped to explore the new light table area on the landing, and noticed the "squishy water balls" as well as other transparent materials. And after running around in Blake Hall for a bit, they saw construction workers using ladders to add new chandeliers to the sanctuary. Maren went to the front where we have Chapel and said, "You can sit in the chairs or you can sit on the ground." Afterwards they visited Molly and the upper balcony area.
The children's first experiences with wire last year in the Brown Room were on display on the wall in the studio. This year, we decided to use those pieces and create new ones for a class mobile. Today, many children worked with Jen to create new additions. Currently the mobile is hanging above the easels but once it is complete in might become the centerpiece above the studio tables.
Most of the children also worked on their cubby bags:
