Collaboration and Joy

A very basic part of getting to know each other has been learning names and recognizing faces.  The children have been engaging with the photo albums since the first day, but the addition of photos on our bulletin board created quite a bit of excitement at morning meeting.  With this comfort and familiarity comes increased joy and interaction among the group.

The message area and our mark making/drawing tool (markers, crayons, colored pencils, pens, pencils, etc.) have sparked collaboration each day.  As they work together, there have been discussions about working together to create space for each child, sharing materials, passing containers, and learning techniques through observation and conversation.  

Today, our mini atelier (studio) was full of carefully chosen papers, ribbon, and lace. Children were invited to feel them, listen to them, and select some for a collage.  Each child took a different approach to their work, and more about this  will be documented as we invite other children to engage with the materials, and we will extend the offer to all of the children to return to the studio to build upon their work.
