Celestial Pen Pals

On Friday of last week, Tucker room worked together to write us a letter about their explorations of the sun. They noticed we had hung our paper suns and moons and offered their different perspectives about the celestial bodies. The note ended by asking us “Do you agree or disagree with our ideas? What else should we know about the sun?”.

Here’s what we decided:

Elena: A note, from the tucker room! Do you think we should write them back?
Lochie: Yeah
Elle: Let’s do it about the moon! Then can we do one about the sea?
Elena: What would you say to them about the moon?
Lochie: uh, uh the moon is covered in dust
George: It’s burning hot
Elle: No, its cooling
Lochie: No, but, no but the moon catches the sun’s um hot… so it’s hot
Elle: Cool!
Elena: So here we have a disagreement, Elle thinks the moon is cool and Lochie thinks the moon is hot
Jack: I think the moon would be hot
CC: I think the moon would be hot
Marley: ehhh I think the moon is gonna be cold
Elena: Why do you think the moon is hot/cold?
Lochie: uhh because it’s collecting the sun’s hotness
Jack: and that’s also why I think it’s hot

Today, we took time to revisit our thoughts and draft a response on the whiteboard. Following our earlier discussion, we decided to share more facts about the moon.

What to tell Tucker:

The moon is covered in dust because of the rocks- Lochie
The moon is cold- CC
The moon is hot - Marley
Violet Moon! A moon with sparkles on it. It’s purple. It’s outside on the playground!- Violet
The shape of the moon is sometimes half and sometimes round- Jack
What I said was, the moon is cold!- Elle
Fire pushes the rocket ship into space and then lands on the landing pad (on the moon)- Lochie

Some friends took opportunities later in the day to do additional research to add to the letter. We can look through more space books to get ideas! - Lochie. Yeah, let’s do this one!- George

Elle also “really wanted to make Tucker laugh” so she wanted to include the following:
The moon is covered in paint! And Jack added his own “What if the moon is covered in popcorn!”

We can’t wait for Tucker’s response!
