Continuing with our exploration of light, shadows and the moon we took time today to paint with watercolors. To add dimension, we used medicine droppers to place the paint on the paper, making observations along the way about how the paper and colors change with the addition of new drops.

CC:
I need that color, but I can’t reach it. There are little bubbles that come out and pop. I just put three drops in.

V: Whoa look at this color. Ooooh Gold!

L: I was sucking it up on the paper and then the fire alarm started. I can’t suck up all this! First it was blackish and now it’s blueish.  If you pop the bubbles it makes little, tiny tups.

V: If you mix it all up it looks like a beautiful green color. I’m making a moon that’s green. I just mix colors and this color. It looks like the earth.

The Family Game
This has been the most popular dramatic play in Rainey B for the last several weeks. In fact, it’s become so prolific in the classroom, Brigitte and I thought we should make note of it in the blog. The game, begun by Elle, features a family. Sometimes with two moms, two dads or all babies, the families begin and end their days in their meticulously constructed block houses. As we’re sure you’ve heard about it at home, here is an excerpt from the storyline on Monday:

Elle: We need a magic perfume
CC: Can you put it right here
George: We need this (pot).
CC: Do you want pie? But you only get one pumpkin. This is spicy, so we’re not going to have it.
Elle: Sweet, sweet. It's  magic perfume! That’s treasure!!
CC: No, I got a hiding place for treasure. It says: hiding place only for treasure for hiding from pirates. Let’s put it here and he will think it’s food and he won’t know it’s treasure.

Elle: Pretend this was my dinner, I ate all my dinner.
CC: Let’s go to sleep
George: Yum, yum, yum!
CC: We’re all done with our dinner, let’s go to bed.
Elle: I’ll tell you where our room is
CC: We have to build three more squares for our bed. I hope the pirate doesnt come at night. This is three more big squares.
George: Then pirates don’t take it
(CC builds a square outline with blocks)
George: Can that be my room? This is mine room CC.
CC: Baby this is your room. You have to sleep in your bed. This is a big bed for Mommy and Daddy.
Lochie: When I ring this, everybody sleeps and it’s nighttime.

We wanted to end today's blog with Jack's inspired Spring drawings! Despite the cold and gloomy weather, Jack persisted with drawing beautiful, spring flowers which he reminded us need "sun, rain and soil to grow". If you're wondering how to copy these works at home, don't fret because according to Jack drawing flowers is "easy peezy!"
