Observing Oceans and Preparing for a Birthday

On Monday Brigitte and I shared the images from families of the children in and around the ocean. Focusing specifically on the color and movement of the water, we discussed similarities and differences in the image.
Picture

Lochie: The water is dark
Elle: My water is bright blue!
George: Mine is dark blue
Elle: It’s white on the sand. There was a beach and there was waves and one of the waves got me!
One of these bubbles made my dress wet.
Jack: Do you see these kind of shimmery stuff in the water, and that green is all trees on the other side.

Elle: I see tracks in Marley’s picture
CC: I see different in George’s picture.
Jack: There’s a line of green in Lochies. That’s kind of like mine
Lochie: Different in CC’s picture because CC’s picture has these black stuff (shadows on the water)
CC: And George’s too!
Lochie: That’s the seaweed, I guess
Jack: Kind of like dark stuff in the picture, I don’t know though.
Elle: I see water and the sun and trees
Jack: Do you see these triggles, that’s kind of like really small one (dark spots).

Tomorrow we will take our observations into consideration as we begin to draft the final design for our  ocean mural project.

Today we enjoyed adding to the collaborative St. John’s Birthday Card project. In celebration of the school’s 24th anniversary, the children are working on adding decorations and designs to a shared piece of work in the front hall. Today RRA used a variety of materials to add celebrations to the space.

Lochie: I found a diamond! Maybe because it changes color and we could pick a color and us that.  I’m starting making better decorations.
Jack: Do you guys know what I’m planning to make?
Violet: We can use some blue materials. Here’s some sparkly fabric Jack

Violet: Look! I made numbers! I write the numbers, it’s for the school! (Pictured far left)

Marley: I’m going to make a message. I’m just going to write an M
CC: where’s the paper
Elle: I have some pink on mine!
George: I want a blue marker
Elle: After I make one for mom, I’m going to make one for the school! I want to make mom a beautiful message

Jack:
Look what I did
Elle: That’s beautiful

Marley:
