After all of our work discussing, researching and painting oceans, it was finally time to start sketching our final product. Brigitte and I proposed the idea of creating a first draft and left the materials for the children on the table. Slowly but surely some gravitated to it adding and collaborating on a variety of features. Collaborating on the Horizon Line and the Sky Lochie: (The horizon line goes) Here because it’s very near to here. Violet: I’m putting waves Lochie: But that’s the sky! CC: I’m adding waves in the sky because it’s a different sea that no-one goes to with waves in the sky Jack: It was a picture of a really purple and blue sky, so that’s why it’s dark blue here. The Ocean Lochie: I’m making the water machine. It’s a brown thing that collects the water and brings it to the shore. They can use the water from the machine to see new designs. It has a hook that connects it to the ocean floor. CC: There’s waves on the bottom and the top Lochie: This is not a sea I know. With waves in the sky? Ummmm maybe no waves in the sky? CC: Yeah it’s like when you go under the waves. Not in the sky Elle: This is the water in the water machine! That’s not water, it’s bubbles. Look, Giant waves! While the first draft project was certainly enticing, the star of the show was, without a doubt, the sensory table Brigitte put together yesterday afternoon. Full of all kinds of sea creatures, shells, sand and water, the “beach light table” was a huge hit! As we were leaving Marley asked “can we keep this up for tomorrow?”. Hopefully all of our dramatic ocean play will help in putting together our final draft of the backdrop!
