After so much planning and conversation, today was finally the day for mixing our ocean and sky paint colors! We started with blues and greens, otherwise known as the “ocean colors”, and as per CC’s and Elle’s request we added dark blue, light blue and gold.
Each child started with a blue of their choosing and then had a variety of colors to choose from. Using the same mixing techniques from our watercolor painting and ocean jars, the children added and stirred until the paint reached their desired color. As the mixing continued, several children mixed their paints together to create four main colors, which will all be used in our final painting project!
Elle: Mine is turning into purple Lochie: This is very thick. Jack: I think a little bit of purple would make it more like an ocean Violet: I love the color Jack: Can I have a little more of that brown? Lochie: Look, look!! Mine is turning. I need more white!
Elle: I’m making a fabulous blue Jack: Yeah, I need more white and purple. Violet: A Sky blue! CC: The dark blue should be the ocean, the water in the ocean is dark. See, that one is a little darker and that one is a little lighter
Tomorrow, we will mix these paints across our canvas and add more details like George’s “ocean line” (the horizon line) next week!
