Rainey Room A: A Day of Clay 

Today we introduced a new material to our space: clay! For some it was a brand new experience and for others it was a reintroduction after many months away. We started our morning with a discussion about our time using clay in the Brown Room, laughing how Jack last year said “maybe it’s chocolate” when he first saw the clay!


In turns, we worked with the clay  at the outdoor classroom, gripping, squishing and rolling it into all kinds of shapes.

George: Look I took it off and broke it! I'm rolling it, look it's a ball!
Lochie squishing it: I’m making a snake, snakes are vvverrrry long
Marley: Mine is going to be really tiny
Elle rolling it: If I do like that, but then it breaks

Jack's creation in process. 

I’m making an island and these are all the houses. Here is the den with the bear and a human is right next to the bear. Eleven humans live next to the bear. -Jack

Jack: I still have the same sculpture from Brown room
CC: This isn’t even stretchy at all
Violet: My hands are getting all slimy
CC: I’m flattening it
Violet: This is such a big piece of clay that it's so hard to pick up. This is a big, ginormous piece!
