Paintings and murals

Lochie and Jane helped Melanie set up our space for our special guest and our outdoor painting experience.

We had a special visitor today in the Brown Room.  Janie's Gaga (Jane), who is a former elementary school teacher, is a muralist.  She spent some time with us this morning, and she was able to demonstrate how we can mix colors and use them to paint things that we see around us (e.g. the sky, tress, and leaves, etc.).  We also had a St. John's alum, Elena, who joined us in the classroom today.  

"I'm dripping the paint right here." - Giacomo

Each child had a different approach to their work.  Giacomo created a red area on his paper, and then used a light blue on top.  He began by dripping the blue in the center of his red, and as he dripped more and more blue, it began to spread.  He paused and watched it, and then began to drip the light blue paint over the entire red shape.  He noted, "I'm dripping the paint right here" as he indicated the outline of the red with his pointer finger - he seemed to notice the property of the paint; it drips.  

Other children chose specific colors that they wanted to use, and some of them observed how the paint color changes as they mix them together.
