"I am a seal and I can clap my hands." -Eric Carle

"Clap! Clap!" -Marley

"Can you do it? I can do it." -Eric Carle

"Who has been to sing along?" Elyse asked the children in preparation for our Friday sing-along.
"Me, me!" Audrey replied. "And me." Marley added.
​Then Elyse asked, "What is a song?" "Twinkle, twinkle." Reed said.

A book, turned song, Eric Carle's Head to Toe  has become a familiar and much loved part of our classroom culture and connectedness. For this reason, we decided to include it in our sing-along repertoire, and to turn this into an opportunity to connect with the other two classes.

​​We visited the Tucker Room today to introduce and teach (the youngest of the school teaching the oldest of the school - how cool is this?!) the Tucker Room children favored song in preparation for Friday's sing-along, ​

Grace: Do you read it the same way that you sing? I like singing  it because I like doing what they are doing.

Rowan: It's a songbook kinda…
Jossie: I already did that gorilla one. ​

Margaret: Why is the song a songbook, a song and reading book? 
Sally: It's a book, but it's a singing book for all of us. You start singing. You read the pages then you sing.

Leigh: I remember you (Elyse) reading that book with Maxon in the morning when I was with Reed.
Lou Lou: I have that book at my house but it got to small for me.
​Leigh: Why is it a song?

"What makes a song, a song?" Melanie asked.
​Jack responded, "A tune."
