Giacomo plans to return in person on April 19!

“When the Loch Ness Monster was here it was met with many other creatures,” Giacomo said as he began to share all his knowledge and fascination and repertoire of knowledge about the Loch Ness monster with us this morning.  We were curious about locale, diet, size, and color.

Q & A with Giacomo and RRB about the Loch Ness:
Elyse: Giacomo, could you tell us where the Lochness Monster lives?
Giacomo: At the bottom of Lochness Lake. … In Scotland.
Sylvie: How big is the Lochness Monster?
Giacomo: It’s head is as big… As big as a Diplodocus (a dinosaur).
Janie: Is the head bigger than an elephant’s?
Giacomo: It would not be as big as an elephant. It would be one hundred feet down from this (the Diplodocus).
Maxon: Does the Lochness Monster eat elephant’s or fishies?
Giacomo: HE eats plankton. It’s (plankton) so small you can’t see it. So it eats some stuff, not fish.
Janie: What is the Lochness longer than?
Giacomo: It is longer than this bunk bed.
Lucia: Is the Lochness Monster pink? Is it hot pink?
Giacomo: He is dark green and his tummy is yellow.

In person RRB shares about our papier maché treehouse:
Elyse: What do you know about treehouses, Giacomo?
Giacomo: I know they are made out of wood and things go inside them. They have a wiggly ladder. A treehouse is supposed to be in a tree. It’s funner.

Woodworking Continued

"I only want to hammer. It  looks like a hammer head shark."  -Janie

Maxon had previously created a sign to inform that monsters were not allowed in the ephemeral treehouse constructed in the outdoor classroom. Today we gave the sign a signpost putting hammer to nail, tap...tap... Janie started the work with persistence and exploration as she tried different weighted hammers. Eventually, the process required some extra help to get the job done. So Lucia and Sylvie joined in with joyful enthusiasm then Maxon with some consistently strong swings of the hammer to the nail.

Story Messages

It's time to give more focus and emphasis to message making!
So we have started to encourage and inspire by making "story messages." A message where the pictures, paper, and material will tell a story. This reinvigoration of message making will support our work of creating messages for next year's incoming children.

Our message makers begin adding complexity by layering their work...

"I'm making something cool. I put a piece of glue on then I cut a piece and drew on it. Now I'm gluing on the drawing. I'm coloring my turtle. It's getting better... Because it's getting bigger and I get to draw more. I like drawing. I'm drawing so much things on top of drawing. ... I just think that it is beautiful. I'm drawing on top of drawing. I'm working really hard."  -Sylvie
