Whit's dad read a page from a Sharks: A Mighty Bite-y History by Miriam Forster about ancient Orthacanthus sharks. We sang Whit our birthday song, he walked around the birthday candle six times to signify his six rotations around the sun, and blew out his candle! It’s my most favorite place and I only like the slide the best. Ava: I’ve been to Scramble and there’s birthday parties. Ava: What’s your favorite kind of fruit? Zari: Oranges and bananas. Zari's CelebrationAfter sharing her vanilla and chocolate mini-cupcake birthday snack, we joined Zari, her mom, dad and little brother, Freddie, on the birthday blanket. Zari's dad read How to Catch a Mermaid by Adam Wallace and her mom read Ice Cream Face by Heidi Woodward Sheffield. They also had a special song to share called Peanut Butter in a Cup. Zari then walked around the birthday candle five times, blew out her candle, and finally we sang her our Tucker Room Birthday song. Zari's birthday committee presented her birthday portrait gift and the drawings of her favorite things. The Tucker Room wishes you a very happy 5th birthday, Zari! All About Golf With "Pop"This week's mystery reader was Ford's grandfather, "Pop." Pop read The ABC's of Golf by Susan Greene to the Tucker children. Pop and Ford adore their golfing time together and it was so special to be able to hear more about their experiences. Pop came prepared with a full demonstration of the different kinds of golf clubs and even generously gave each child their own golf ball! Thanks so much, Pop! A look at next week...We'll see you all on Tuesday! As the days of the Tucker Room wane, we are revisiting materials that we have used over the last three years in the studio through the lens of spring. This week, the children delighted in the experiences of collage for a last time in the Tucker Room. It is easy to see the planning and thought that went into each of their projects. Critical Thinking I forgot that I already did 2. Now I did 3. Zari Intentional PlanningCharlton made an intentional choice in his design, beginning with blues and greens and then making a change to his plan. Jack intentionally sorted through the flower catalogs in search of his special flowers. Whit carefully measured and cut the pieces of fabric and ribbon for his collage which depicted a sailboat. Whit chose feathers for his waves, while Cal also added a ribbon with tassels as his ocean. Cal then added feathers for his waves. The next few weeks in the Tucker Room will be busy! Here's a look at what's coming up:
We will also be celebrating birthdays for Zari, Ford, Whit and Emma before the end of the year. With such a busy month ahead, blog posts will not be as frequent. In the last lovie update, we shared the children's conversations and ideas about creating a stuffed lovie bear for the incoming Brown Room children. We last left off with the completion of their lovie pattern, and since then, its development has progressed significantly! The children have been collaborating with Brigitte to sew the lovie, and below are her notes and pictures on the process and progress of the lovie. Looking at Lovie Patterns Ellie: This is a wide circle. This is like the tummy, the head and the hands. Fay looking at a printed pattern: She did different shapes, because pigs are different shapes in all parts of their body. More than one material. Maybe not a different material, but a different fabric. Zari: You first draw what you make. You need to plan your shape before you sew. Ellie: First you draw and then you sew. We did not do it all. We started with one piece. One piece and then another. Sewing the Lovie's Wings Choosing the Lovie's Fabric Sewing the Fabric Squares Together Sewing and Assembling the Lovie's Head In the next update we will share the children's work on putting all parts of the lovie together and stuffing! |
