This morning a small group consisting of Palmer, Cannon, Wolf B and Oliver worked together on a cooperative building project in the sand area. It was fantastic to observe as they created a narrative, listened to each other's ideas and negotiated where and how to add materials.
Palmer: It's wobbly. We have to make it steady.
Cannon: We have to balance it.
Wolf B: (hands on hips) Dangerous chemicals. Nobody goes near it.
Palmer: Just the construction workers can go near it.
Wolf B: It's not stable.
Brooke: How can you make it stable?
Wolf B: Big, heavy materials.
This project was how this group spent their backwards day. They diligently worked for almost an hour, maintaining their narrative and increasing the complexity by adding pipes, small blocks, sand and other materials.
At the end of the day we welcomed our 2nd Mystery Reader, Lizanne. She brought 2 great stories to share. We won't always be able to document Mystery Reader on the blog, but hope that you can peruse the binder in the classroom to see our visitors and what they have read.
Here are some other highlights from the day:
