Writing a letter to Toad on Tuesday, October 6th. You made have heard about Toad before. Toad lives outside of the Rainey B Classroom. He's "their" Toad. We, in Brown Room, have a fondness for Toad and greet him in the hallway daily. We had an idea recently; What if Toad was able to visit our classroom for a day? Let's write a message to Rainey B and ask if Toad can come visit. If we want Toad to visit our classroom, what should we say in our letter? Finlay: Dear Toad. Can Toad please come to our classroom? Remy: I say 2 hours. Sam: For two hours? Okay, on what day? Finlay: Tomorrow. Sam: Oh, but not all of you will be at school tomorrow. Bea: Not me? Sam: Maybe we can ask Toad to come on Friday instead. Finlay: Yeah, Friday. Sam: Rainey Room friends could say, yes, he can come or they could say ... Finlay: Or no. Sam: Right. Or no, he can't come. Maybe we should ask Rainey to respond to our letter. I'll write 'return to Brown Room' on it. We read our finished letter and decided if Rainey Room was to know it's from us, we would have to sign it with our symbols. Cate: I want to sign it! Daniel: I did it! As we were signing the message, Melanie O and her Rainey Room friends entered the hallway. Finlay wanted to tell Melanie what we were doing. Finlay: We making message to Toad. Remy was in charge of the envelope for our message. Remy: I say, 'Dear Toad'. It's Toad's birthday. It's a frog right there (a drawing she made). That says his name. Toad (writing she added to the bottom). And that says, 'Dear Toad'. I'm giving it for Toad. Time to deliver it to Rainey B. Cate: I'll carry the letter!  Rainey Room had a couple of days to discuss the message they received. Not all of the friends in Rainey wanted Toad to have a visit day. They were a bit concerned for Toad's well-being if he was going to be away from his home for a day and needed time to think about their response. After having discussions together in their own classroom, they were ready to make a decision today and send us a reply message.  We peeked into Rainey B to see if we could see Toad inside. Then, Lucia and Melanie delivered us their response! Hooray! Toad will visit us on Tuesday!Sing Along with Saul!
Every day we observe a growing awareness of attendance through conversations the children have with one another and questions that they ask us regarding the presence of their peers. We know that not all of our friends come to school every day and some friends we have yet to meet in person. We mentioned yesterday that we would be having a special sing along with one of those friends - Saul! We had a lot of fun at our sing along today. We taught Saul the "dinosaur song" and sang a few other classroom favorites. We also had the intention to get to know a little bit more about Saul and what types of things he likes or doesn't like. Specifically ... "Do you like dinosaurs?" - Lily "Do you like giraffes?" - Hugh Saul told us that he might not like dinosaurs or giraffes, but he does like OWLS. What will we do with this newly discovered information about our friend? Hmm ... we shall see! A friendly reminder - If your child loves to sing a song that we might not have had the chance to learn here at school yet, you are more than welcome to send us a video of you singing a favorite song from home. We love learning new songs together! Having a video from a friend to watch and listen to is a great way for us to learn more about our friends and also, their families. Bringing paint outdoors on backwards Friday.We thought that having painting as an option during our extended outside time this morning would be different and exciting. We purposefully offered only primary colors at the easel and anticipated that there might be some color mixing and changes observed throughout the painting process. Some children chose to paint by themselves and others agreed they would like to paint together.
Daniel and Lucas also enjoyed painting in the outdoor classroom today! Daniel offers to help care for our outdoor classroom environment by sweeping and disposing of some of the fallen leaves covering the ground. More outdoor fun and discovery
Sometimes it just feels really good to be silly.
