Disassembling the (broken) spotlight

A few weeks ago, we discovered that our spotlight was not working.  After some testing with Jen, we discovered that it really was never going to work again. So, why shouldn't we get to take it apart?

It is hard to describe the enthusiasm around taking this apart.  It was not easy, and they really had to work hard to figure out how to get the casing open. Inside they found wires, boards, light bulbs, and more! Their amazement and enthusiasm was contagious.

Today, on what is likely our final day of the spotlight, they spent time hammering the pieces.

Pajama Day, Valentine's Day, and A Night at St. John's

At the beginning of January, Jack asked if we could mark Valentine's day on our calendar. Today, he decided that we needed to mark off the days in February that have already passed. Then, he and CC added hearts to Valentine's day!  So, the countdown is truly on! This year, Valentine's day is also a pajama day! Don't forget to wear your favorite pajamas to school on Monday!

The other exciting event coming up is: A Night at St. John's! The children are SO excited and full of ideas about the evening!  We will send a follow up email, but our updated "itinerary" is as follows:

5:30 - 6:00 - Pizza dinner in Tucker Room [we'll also be observing the sunset from our Western facing windows]
6:00 - 6:45 - Shadow exploration, and more in the Tucker Room
6:45 - 7:15 - We'll move to the outdoor classroom.
7:15 - Pick up will be on the front lawn. We'll exit the outdoor classroom from the side gate and meet you all on the front lawn.

A chapter book for snack!

We recently started a St. John's, Tucker Room favorite: My Father's Dragon!  Currently, we are on chapter 3, and getting ready to start chapter 4 on Monday!  They are doing a great job of remembering details, guessing what is coming next, asking insightful questions, and they've been asking about it on days when we aren't reading!

Stay tuned for more details and storylines!
