Our first Birthday Committee

Monday Memories...

We welcomed a new friend to the Brown Room on Monday! Bea (Beatrice) joined us and had a fantastic first day. She remembered seeing Jade and Finlay before and was excited to sing our morning meeting song together with everyone else. Welcome Bea, we are so happy that you are part of the Brown Room!

Yesterday we continued to explore paint. Jade, Daniel, Bea, and Cate painted at school for the first time. While Jade and Bea started to paint on the easel, Daniel grabbed a chair to sit next to me and "watch". Remy joined us a few minutes later.

Jade used her left hand to carefully move the paintbrush up and down on her paper before also starting to dot with it.

Bea chose the colors yellow, pink, red, blue and green. But she preferred to keep them separate from each other.

Daniel's preferred color was dark blue. Only in the very end he tried out a few different colors. During his 35 minutes of working on his painting he repeatedly said "I am not finished".

​Cate painted a base of paint in circular movements and then continued to add different colors on top of it. At first she created individual circles and then mixed colors together.

Remy: What are you making?
Daniel: I'm making a ghost.
Remy: Uuuuuhh.
Daniel: I'm making a monster.
Jade: A monster?
Daniel: I'm making a monster on the picture. It's not real this time. I'm painting with blue.
Jade: He's making a monster!
Ines: What are you making?
Jade: A monkey.
Daniel: I'm making a monster. Scary and mad.
Bea: She is mad.
Daniel: I'm not mad. This monster is mad.

Tuesday Thoughts...

Today Remy chose her symbol! 

Remy: It's a ladybug (about a beetle stamper)
Sam: What about that one?
Remy: I don't know, what is it? (about a paw print) It's a reindeer hand!
Remy: Oh that's yours! (to Sam) It's deer feet.

Sam: What kind of feet are those?
Remy: My feet! My favorite! It's TOES. People toes.

And we started our first birthday committee for Finlay's birthday celebration on Friday. Hugh, Bea, Cate, Lily, and Finlay discussed how we can make Finlay's day very special.

Finlay: How about a present for me?
Bea: A surprise.
Finlay: Face painting.
Lily: Me and Grace got face painting.
Bea: Make a cake for him?
Hugh: Strawberry cake, ice cream cake, chocolate cake.
Bea: Yeah.
Lily: What do you like? Let's see what kind he likes. I think he likes strawberries.
Finlay: I do.
​Hugh: I like chocolate cake.
Cate: I like strawberries.

Lily: Do you like black, Finlay?
Finlay: Yes. (After some thought) No. I don't like black. I like blue. 
Lily: I'm sorry. I don't have a blue toy. But I have a black toy.

Lily: We need something to wrap something. What can you wrap?
Hugh: Maybe we should get some paint for his birthday.
Finlay: And we can put it in a box.
Ines: Why should we put it in a box?
Finlay: Because it's a present.

After learning that Finlay's favorite color is blue we looked in the classroom for blue items which we could use to make him a present. We found markers, pencils, tape, paint, paper, a block from the light table, ink pads, and magna-tiles. We also used this opportunity to explore the Tucker Room closet for the first time. It is a magical place, let me tell you...

Lily: It's getting so full and heavy. Wow look at all this blue.
