A Closer Look
Observing scales through a digital microscope

To begin their research, Jade and Cate decide to investigate the "scales" on their own skin.
They also discovered "scales" in a different surface.

The image of the cling wrap covering the base of the microscope stand does appear very scaly!
What type of animal do you think this came from?
A dinosaur animal! - Cate
I don't think it's a dinosaur. - Jade
An octopus? - Cate
Maybe jellyfish? - Jade
But dinosaurs have fingers... - Cate
I think it's a foot... skin. - Jade
Looking closer at chicken feet:

They are hands! - Jade

Cate also showed interest in capturing scaly images using the iPhone camera as well.
Remy begins her initial investigation:
Similar to Jade and Cate, Remy was also curious about her own skins appearance under the microscope ...

Remy compares her own nail to the chicken claw.

Remy investigates her "scales".
Next up, Wilder:
Wilder observes the scales and compares the shapes he notices to "spines" and "spots".
Later, he also references the "sharp feet" and "funny scales" he observed through the microscope.

Chicken feet are in fact edible.

This research has been incredibly fun and we can't wait to continue with the rest of the children!
