Welcome Sylvie! Yesterday was Sylvie's first Zoom call with the virtual classroom, and we are so excited to have her! Something I know about Sylvie is that she has a lot of incredible ideas that she is willing to share! We also welcomed back Wolf and our Monday friend, Remy!

Here is the link to Wolf's sound riddle from today's (11/30/20) zoom call. We'll use this to inspire our zoom call together on Thursday, 12/3. What kind of sound riddle will you create for us on Thursday? You can hold it off camera, and we'll take turns guessing. Maybe you can prepare a few "hints" for us in case we aren't getting it.
As we began to think about preparing for the Thanksgiving Feast, we decided to collaborate with the Brown Room and Rainey Rooms who were represented in the virtual classroom at that time. Jen introduced me to this artist, and his work includes a lot of wrapping. He wrapped statues, trees, and even buildings. Take some time to look at his work on his website (I recommend "Realized Projects" and "Works in Process"). Do you see how he took time to plan his work? He used drawing tools to plan his project, and he often used a wide variety of tools (pencils, charcoal, pastels, crayons, and wax crayons). He also did mixed media plans that included his drawing tools, but also twine, photographs, maps, fabric samples, tape, twine, paint, and more. How can we use some of these materials to make our own plans before we wrap our branches, or before we begin any project? I'll post some additional photos from his process. During story time this morning, we also chatted about some of our favorite animals. Saul's is an owl, which Audrey has always loved as well. Audrey told us that she learned this morning about how baby owls sleep on their bellies because their heads are so heavy. We also learned that Audrey likes cows, so I shared my favorite kind of cow (a baby Scottish 'coo'). Audrey and Saul also spent some time building while I was reading (Saul- Mail truck; Audrey- Beary). I cannot wait to see what we built tomorrow with our found/loose materials. How will you connect your materials?
We had so many friends on our Zoom today! Even Molly joined us! It was so wonderful to see all of you! We thought a bit about drawing our plan for our construction on Wednesday (Saul plans to build a Mail Truck, while Audrey is thinking about what kind of circles she needs to build "Beary".). Cate was collaging with torn paper, and Remy was drawing her beloved Piglet with her favorite color, purple! Thank you for sharing your time and work with me today! I was also excited to revive "Sleeping Bunnies"! It was always a favorite when we were in the Brown Room! I'll see you on Wednesday! This week we saw familiar faces (Saul, Remy, Cate, and Wolf), but we also met two new friends from the Brown Room, Wilder and Hugh. We even got to see Molly! We also had quite a few laughs this week! Next week is a short week as there will be no school on Thursday and Friday! |
