In order to make it look like a gingerbread house, children felt they needed decorations, especially candy canes. On Tuesday, they eagerly drew the candy canes and gingerbread people. Children collaborated to build and decorate the structure. Children have been able to play with the building, almost as if it is a giant cool house. The gingerbread people have celebrated Halloween and Christmas and avoided falling down the chimney. "I've been waiting to cook something!" SeonWe collected enough persimmons to make persimmon bread! While some children were baking, others were drawing. "We made per-cinnamon bread!" PierceTable setters this week were Bailee, Ford, Pierce, Lillian, Ellie, and Adaline.

Autonomy and CreativityWe have encouraged the CW children to be independent and autonomous in the atelier. We are delighted to see the fruits of our labor blossom. This week the CW children gravitated toward the atelier on their own after lunch and gather the materials they needed to draw. It is such a major milestone here at St John's to have the children familiar with their environment and all the materials we have available to them to get inspired and creative. I joined the CW children in the atelier with sewing materials. While I was helping a couple of friends sewing paper on paper, I was delighted to witness friends helping each others. Isabelle, Bailee, Ellie, Adaline, and Zari were drawing rainbows. Isabelle - What color come after yellow? Bailee , Zari, and Ellie - Orange ! Bailee - Brigitte, what blue do I use for the clouds? (Bailee wants to draw a sky next to her rainbows) Brigitte - Bailee, let's think together about the color of a cloud. What colors do you see when you look at the sky? Bailee - I see blue, so what kind of blue do I use for my clouds? (pointing at the jar of blue pencils) Brigitte - Are the clouds blue? Bailee - No, they are white ! Brigitte - So why don't you draw clouds and filled the spaces between the clouds blue? Bailee - I don't know how to draw a cloud. Brigitte - Clouds can be many shapes, right? What shape do you think a cloud is? Bailee - Kind of round. Brigitte - Yes, about we use the jumping pencil methods like we use to draw hearts, jump, jump, jump and close it. Try it. Baille - I made a cloud! Brigitte - Wonderful! Bailee - I can make clouds and hearts and color the sky blue! On Wednesday, Brigitte drew with the Tucker children in the morning, and Seon finished her Clarinet drawing during CW. On Friday, Isabelle wanted to draw a Christmas tree which inspired Zari and Will to draw one too. Fay drew herself playing the "Raise your Hand Game" for our hallway documentation. Intricate Small WorldsHow wonderful it is to recreate your dream world in miniature! Seon put together a " very nice and Cozy" world as she called it, where birds and bunnies live together. There's even a book on their night stand! Light, Projections, and ShadowsOur Table Setters this week were : Jack and Ford, Will and Seon, Zari and Charlton, Isabelle and Whit.Outdoor TimeToday, Will started moving the benches around to create a "Walking Course" Ford helped Will with the heavy lifting, and everyone enjoyed Will's fun walking course.
