Welcome Back, Rose!

It was great to have Rose with us in KW today.  She immediately joined in our canal water investigation. We brought back the digital microscope with and children were encouraged to draw what they observed.  This time, however, they drew on clear acrylic paper that was on the light table.  Many children were interested in this provocation and the work  became collaborative.   Here's some of what was said as the children drew:
   Rose - I see some moss.  See that green stuff?  I think it's moss.
   Lila - I see a piggy.
   Willa - I see a worm.
   Rose - Actually, I think I'm very creative.  I have a studio at home.
    Lila - I see a circle with dirty dots in it.
    Rose - Me too, I see dirty dots.
    Willa - Me too, I see dirty dots.  
    Rose - Look at my stuff,  I'm looking really well.  
    Lila - I see light.  Let me get the light.
    Willa - (Counts to 10) That's how many dots I can fit in mine.
    Lila - I can fit twenty (she and Willa count together).
    Hadley - It's a river.  The sun is shining down on it.  It's a reflection because the drawing looks like the sun in the middle and the dots look like the other stuff.

Not exactly Artechouse, but.....

Children interacted with projected and real leaves in front of the shadow screen today.  There was tossing, dancing, jumping, twirling, falling, and storytelling throughout the afternoon.  Enjoy the slideshow.
