Trip to the CanalWe had a serious trip to take today - a trip to the canal to first check on the ducks, but also to cast our wishing rocks into the water. When we got to the canal we could hardly believe our eyes. There must have been about 15 ducks gathered together just after the second bridge! We speculated which ducks were boys, girls, mommies, daddies, brothers, sisters or friends and then continued down the canal. Along the way we spotted something that seemed far too large to be a duck. As we got closer we realized it was a blue heron! Children enjoyed quietly watching the heron for a bit before it flew away. Once we made it to a spot along the canal that seemed clear of ducks, each child threw their wishing rock into the canal. They decided to keep their wishes to themselves (just to be safe). The brick pillars have become somewhat of a traditional stop for us on our trips to the waterfront and the canal. We had enough time to stop by them on our way back to school this afternoon. Enjoy your long weekend!
