Our Watercolors EraChildren began by painting various steps and shape with watercolors. Adaline - The orange looks good next to the magenta. Gracie - When you mix the orange and the magenta, it turns red. Building with Light and ShadowThis and that...
The Last LetterTuesday, May 7 Brigitte - Did you know know that we only have one letter left to make for our Children's workshop title and it's the letter R Charlton - I made the letter R Brigitte - Yes and it was fantastic, but there are two Rs in the title. So my question is: what materials or techniques would you like to use to make the last letter R? Jack - Paint Brigitte - Charlton painted the C and Ellie painted the E, what material haven't we use yet? Whit - Block Zari - Drawing Brigitte - We used blocks and Seon drew the S Ellie - Flowers Zari - Wire Brigitte -The D is made out of wire and beads Cal - Chains Ford - Cardboard Charlton - I used cardboard to make the R Charlton - Leaves Ellie - Clay Brigitte - Whit and Eliza made the S out of clay Eliza - We made a snake Whit - Musical instruments Ellie - Sewing Brigitte - We sewed the H and F Charlton - Needle Felting Brigitte - We needled felt the W Whit - Paper Brigitte - We used paper to make the L Bailee - Sticks Brigitte - We made the N out of sticks and wire Cal - St John's symbol is gingko leaves, we can make it with real gingko leaves Whit - Markers, we can glue markers together to make an R, or paint brushes and scissors Cal - Food Brigitte - Food that starts with the letter R ? or your Favorite food ? it is an interesting idea because we do eat lunch in CW, so food is part of our program. What kind of food? Several children - Pineapple, sandwiches, salmon, cucumbers Whit - Rawls starts with an R On Wednesday, May 8, we read the conversation we had with the Tuesday group, and we asked the same question: Jill - We are starting to talk about having only one letter left in our CW title. We are thinking about what materials or techniques we could use to make that letter. Whit - You could make a letter out of letters Pierce - Maybe bananas are a C and apples are an O Ford - My first idea is beads, my second idea is draw it and put glue on it and then draw on it again Will - Maybe we could make an R out of books, tiny books Cal - Deadpool pictures Eliza - We could bend wire and then put the beads on it Zari - You could make and R out of rocks Jill - That's a great idea, because what does rocks start with ? Several children - R ! Pierce - You could take a jar of paint and put glue in it and then make it an R Isabelle - You could make it out of bells Whit - Or make it out of stuffies Ford - Glass and rainbow glue Will - You could make it out of pretend glasses Whit - Make it out of this (pointing to the attendance sheet) children's faces Whit - Make it out of pillows, or stuffing Brigitte - Whit, do you mean like the stuffy we made in the Tucker Room for the incoming Brown Room children? Whit - Yes On Thursday, we read all the new ideas children generated, which were: - Food - Children's faces - Gingko leaves - Stuffy - Rocks - Glass - Chain - Flowers - Bells - Tiny books - Rainbow glue So far, we had a very unanimous and enthusiastic response to RAINBOW GLUE! (Whatever that is!) In the Atelier
And Cal worked on drawing his favorite super hero. Needle Felting
Basketball Game in the Outdoor ClassroomThe children came up with a fun way to play basketball and freeze tag. Will and Pierce built an airport. Our table setters this week were: Ford and Bailee, Ellie and Adaline, Jack and Fay, Whit and PierceThank you ALL for your kindness during Teacher Appreciation Week. Happy Mothers Day!
Continuing with WatercolorsWe only had six children in CW on Friday, and several additional friends were interested in making watercolors with negative space.
Fay was very intentional about her process. If you look at the oblong shapes around the edge of her painting, she incorporated the concept of symmetry. She matched colors in shapes that were opposite from each other. Around the classroom...Children glazed their clay, made messages, worked with magnatiles and other manipulatives, developed stories in small world, and spent time in construction. ...And Outside FunHave a great evening! We're looking forward to seeing many of you at the

During reflection: Zari - You just put water on the paper and then dab with the colors, but the shape turns out different. Adaline - If you put too much water on the paper, the color just goes anywhere and it might not be the shape you want. Eliza - The color spreads when you put the watercolors on the water. Whit - With too much water, the colors go out-- it will look like tie-dye. |
Ford - Construction is one of my favorites because we can build so many houses. Ellie - I like the big hollow blocks. Jack - That was biggest building we ever made. Bailee - That was the biggest. I like building homes for my stuffs. Charlton - Criss-cross building is important because it makes buildings stable. Jack - I was working for a long time and I used lost of blocks and materials. Cal - I built the whole time! Charlton - I did small world because I was afraid it would fall on me. |
Children requested "water" and "icebergs" for construction today. They built an arctic environment for sea animals, penguins and polar bears. They also added a tall tower, perhaps inspired by yesterday's work. Whit - I stacked the blocks so they were stable down to the ice floor and they wouldn't float away. Rawls - I was making a pointy top on the tall building. Isabelle - The animals were trying to find powers and they found powers. Then they were trying o find a new home and they found a new home. Ford - And there was an arctic "Gunniwolf" (referring to story that we had read in CW). |
While building: Charlton - This is the road of death (indicating that the road was wobbly and would be slightly dangerous for the vehicles). Cal - (With a vehicle) This is a fire dune buggy. I made a jump road (indicating that there was a gap, so vehicle would have to jump from one side to another). Jack - I' trying to make it so the roads don't crash. some of these roads are not working. I made a nice smooth road. This road works! It's stable! Ford - The death road! It's impossible to drive on! Wait, I balanced two cars. |
Children requested the cars and the tape again today and we saw the same level of collaboration. While building: Eliza - (Building an archway). This is to welcome cars to the ceremony. Charlton - This is my monster truck. I'm making a monster truck house. Whit - (Building something so tall that he needed a step stool.) My lovie likes to be up this high. Eliza - My car crashed, so we have to get a police car. |
Adaline - I want to sew an A because it 's the first letter of my name, how do you made an A Brigitte? Brigitte - You know how to trace an A, now try placing your little pieces of fabric into the shape of an A Ellie - I want to sew my whole name Will - I want to sew my L for Lopez Pierce - I want to make an R for Rodriguez Eliza - I want to make my E because it's the fist letter of my name Zari added more fabric to the Z she sewed last week Gracie - Can I make a G again? Whit made another W because we used his beautiful W for our Alphabet chart Ford - Okay, I will make my F! Lillian - I love sewing, I am going to sew a design for my mommy. |
