Gift-MakingAs children continued gifts they worked with many concepts. Two that stood out today were relationships and the choice of and decisions related to working with materials. As you can see from the following examples, the two of these concepts have an impact on one another as well. RELATIONSHIPS - Louise showing thoughtfulness of her mother said, "I'm using green because my mom loves green." Joslin also considered her mom and the aspect of surprise in preparing a special gift when she chose to hide her wrapped present inside a bag, "I don't want her to see the box." Joslin planned ahead and anticipated a special moment for someone she cares for. DECISIONS ABOUT MATERIALS - Sam considered the size and relationships between the items he chose. Without giving away the details of his gift, he came across a moment when a larger object covered a smaller one because of the way the materials lay on top of one another. He explained, "This one (paper bead) went over this blue one (piece of straw) so I'm putting this one on this side and this one on this side." He then placed the beads in defending order of size so that the smaller beads sat on top of the larger ones. Sam paid close attention to these details to match his own perception of an idea, have an outcome that met his intended purpose, and make the gift special. Likewise, Grace asked while working on her gift, "Does mine look fancy?" She selected beads in a specific color scheme while creating pattern and symmetry. SPOILER ALERT: Some photos in the following slideshow may contain spoilers for a certain upcoming holiday. ;) Also today...Sewing Tiles ContinuedBuilding with Shelly's HouseWhat additions did Shelly's House receive today? Elena - "I added a dance house." James - "A garden." Louise - "I made a water slide." Outdoor ClassroomIn the outdoor classroom, children once again tested their physical limits on the monkey bars and other climbing. They challenged and modeled for one another different ways of getting on and off the monkey bars. Sam, Louise, and Grace engaged in social play inside the cob house complete with beds for each child, a table nicely decorated, and Sam's homemade Apple Supper. Overheard during this interaction: Louise (to Grace) - "You can be the baby, then the sister, then the mother. Then you can buy a husband, then you can buy a house." HAVE A GREAT EVENING AND
