Thank You!We would like to thank all the families who took time to stop by our CW Gallery Walk yesterday. We also want to the thank the parents who were able to stay for the PTC meeting as we discussed how the CW experiences support connections in our mixed-age program. The Pleasure of Counting We have noticed children counting at various times as they move through the afternoon. They count materials they use in construction and collage. They count how many girls and how many boys are at lunch. Indeed, research has shown that even from infancy, children encounter items that can be manipulated, touched and counted. These processes form a base for learning informal math concepts.
Based on this experience, we decided to include other counting experiences. We provided sheets of paper with columns and grids, as well as long strips of paper to promote lining up and counting materials.
As you can see, children are working on more than just counting. As they count, they are also including the important math concepts of patterns, addition, equivalence, and relative size and shape. We will continue to offer similar experiences throughout the year. Haunted Houses
