Welcome to Session II!

Today, we welcomed a few "new" friends to camp.
These friends may be just starting their camp session, but they are not new to St. John's.

Welcome Elle, Jack, Violet, Audrey, Maxon, and Finlay!

Later this week we hope to welcome back, Remy, to St. John's.
Many of us already know Remy because she was in Brown Room last year!

Working with Wire

We wanted to begin this week by introducing an exciting new material to work with - Wire!
Many of us are already familiar with this material from previous project work during the school year, but this is the first opportunity we have had to fully explore wire at summer camp.

While we know there are different types of wire and each type can function differently, we used the term threading to describe the work we would be doing with wire today.

Materials such wire in different colors, thickness, and flexibility
as well as
beads made of different materials
were offered to the children to thread onto their wire pieces.

Some children made jewelry for themselves or family members.

Others made decorative wire pieces to embellish their portfolio drawers.

Some of us also enjoyed sculpting the wire and using tools such as wire cutters and pliers to manipulate the shape and size of the material!

Exploring a "new" space

While some of us were eager to begin working with wire, others (especially those of us experiencing our first day of camp) were excited to begin exploring the rest of our classroom space and all that it has to offer!

Camp Reminders!

* If you haven't already done so, please send in at least 1 additional change of clothes (shorts, shirt, underwear, and socks) with your child to keep in their cubby at camp.
We will send home all personal belongings at the end of Session II.

* Our class water day is on Wednesday each week. Please send your child to school in his/her water clothes. If you prefer, having some type of coverup over the top of their swimsuit is totally fine. It is also extremely helpful to provide a towel and a change of shoes (in addition to their dry clothing) for your child as well.

Thanks for all of the support! See you tomorrow.
