An Introduction to Sewing As we continue to observe and document the change in season, one change has been consistently brought up in our classroom conversations ... It's cold. I put my sweater on. - Dahlia The hat keep us so warm. My head. - Benji I wear mittens. I wear jackets. - William And a hat! - Betsy We need to wear jackets to keep our body warm. - Noah As we were thinking about the all the clothing and accessories that we wear to keep us warm in the winter, we realized that our baby dolls, who the children so thoughtfully care for daily, do not have any winter weather gear. We wondered, could we create articles of clothing to keep our babies warm as the weather cools down? With this in mind, we introduced sewing. Happy birthday, Betsy! With our friend Betsy's birthday coming up, we decided to incorporate our newfound sewing expertise into her pink birthday weaving. First, Betsy's birthday committee sewed pink materials onto strips of white fabric that would later make up Betsy's weaving. It (the needle) goes in and out. - Benji I'm really working hard on this. - Van So many pinks! - Dahlia After weaving, we mixed paints to create a bright pink on which to back Betsy's weaving and add to the materials selection for her birthday message. Thanks to Isa for helping the committee finish up the message! Time to celebrate!
